Phil Douglas Jackson, an American professional basketball player coach and executive once said, “The strength of the team lies within the individual. And the strength of the individual lies within the team.” This is his essence of team building. The Toril Community Cooperative conducted its annual team building at SUNRISE BEACH RESORT, Island Garden City of Samal last July 6-7, 2019. Facilitated by Alona G. Banzali,a professor of Human Resource Management program at the University of Mindanao, eighty-six (86) employees coming from different branches came to draw in leadership lesson, spending time together with the rest of the employees to enhance individuals strengths and weakness, sharing an experience or working towards a common goal allows bonding to happen more organically and
far more effectively.
The day started with an opening remarks done by Ms. Karen A. Espinoza followed by the General Manager, Marivic D. Madrio’s welcoming the all the employees, board and committees. The facilitator first conducted a discussion with the regards the essence of TEAM BUILDING, explaining the objective and purpose of the said activity. The employees were grouped and were tasked to do a unique “jingle” that best described their teams. The workshop was the TOWER MAKING that was made of raw materials. It aimed how the team could strategize to come up with a sturdy tower, basically a reflection of their unique ability and skills to resolve or address unforeseeable circumstances that might occur in the working field. The tower was tested through shaking it or fanning it. Indeed there were towers that fell down and there were towers that stood still.
The winning team was from the group of Ms. Ailyn Denila. After the tower building activity, everyone got exhausted and hungry and so the sumptuous lunch was served. An unexpected VIP that was present during the building, Senator Bong Go, who happens to be in the same location with us where he and his team were having their lunch as well and everyone was indeed surprised by his presence. We’ve got the chance to mingle with Senator Bong Go; he was also generous enough to give us souvenirs and took a photo with us. As everyone was filled and re-energized everyone was all set for the afternoon’s activity, we were welcomed again by the facilitator and preceded to the next activity. Each team has picked their representative to join the “TRIP TO JERUSALEM” game. The winning team came from Mr. Jose Caylan’s group as represented as well by Mr. Jose Caylan.
The last activity conducted by the afternoon was a lecture headed by the facilitator; the lecture focuses on the importance CUSTOMER SERVICE and STRESS MANAGEMENT and how it will affect the management. The key to have a satisfied customer is to render GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE thus each employee must possess traits of good customer service, which was emphasized by the lecturer during the discussion and how to overcome stress. In every establishment the occurrence of stress is indeed inevitable thus some of the employees are becoming more impatient and sometimes their stress affects their deliverance of good customer service; these two, customer service and stress management will test each employees patience therefore it is very important to know how to deal with these.
The day ended with a closing remark done by the General Manager Marivic D. Madrio, as she acknowledged the effort and camaraderie of each employee who participated the 2019 TCC Team Building. The real essence of the activity is not only to have fun but to enhance the team effort, to build trust towards the co-employee, enhance their individual skills, creativity and talent and also to build trust towards one another.
